About the Display of Japanese Characters
Some computers may not properly display the Japanese characters used in this website by default. If you see a series of boxes, either blank or with small numbers within the boxes, you may need to install a language pack.
Wikipedia Help: Japanese has an excellent article, including testing, on Japanese font support for web browsers and operating systems.
Information for installing language packs
Microsoft Windows instructions:
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista - by default, all characters should display properly; reference this link for additional information and language pack downloads.
- By default, all necessary fonts should be enabled for Mac OS X 10.2 and higher (Jaguar, 2002). For multilingual update support, view Apple's website
Other OS instructions:
- Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, FreeBSD, Gentoo, Mandriva, and openSUSE should all have proper langauge support. For instructions on further font support, view the Help: Japanese article referenced above.
